Region 7 man arrested for allegedly raping 17-year-old girl

Police ranks in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) have on Friday arrested a man who has been accused of raping a 17-year-old female. The Police have said that the victim and the suspect are known to each other.
Preliminary investigations revealed that, on the day in question, the suspect had visited the teenager’s home, where he committed the act against her will. At the time, she was at home alone.
The act had reportedly left the teen unconscious, and upon regaining consciousness, she raised an alarm. A report was then made to the Police. The suspect has been arrested as further investigations get underway.
Just recently, Police in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) arrested a 19-year-old male after he was accused of raping an intoxicated 16-year-old female. Investigations revealed that the victim and the alleged suspect are known to each other.
On the day in question, at about 17:00h, the suspect picked up the victim from her home with his motorcar, and along with two of her friends, they consumed alcohol.
“It is further alleged that while transporting the victim back home (she was intoxicated), the suspect stopped the car and forcefully committed the act without her consent,” the Police have said in a statement.
A report was made to the Police, and the victim was escorted to a medical facility, where she was examined. The suspect was then contacted, told of the allegation of rape and cautioned, but he denied it.
Nevertheless, he was placed in custody, and subsequently charged for the offence.
