Hours after Chief Justice (ag) Roxane George ruled that the Declaration of Results for Electoral District Four (Demerara-Mahaica) is null and void and that the process of tabulating the Statements of Poll (SOPs) is to recommence no later than 11:00h, in a clear act of defiance Returning Officer, Clairmont Mingo, has yet to adhere at 11:30h.
This comes on the heels of GECOM initially barring Political Parties and Observers from entering Mingo’s Office at the corner of High and Hadfield Streets, Georgetown. A decision was then taken to allow one Observer from each Mission as well as one Political Party representative.
It is unclear, at this time, whether Mingo would restart the process of tabulating the SOPs or pick up from where he left off. Nevertheless, the process was expected to recommence at 11:00h as ordered by the Court, but never did – an act which is being described by the Parties as a clear violation of the Court Orders.
Additionally, objections were made when Mingo is attempted to utilize a spreadsheet in an effort to tally the number of votes cast for each Political Party that contested the March 02 General and Region Elections.
That was related by Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Commissioner, Sase Gunraj in a post on Facebook.
