Registration closes tomorrow for Independence T20

the annual twenty/20 softball cricket competition jointly organized by the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Incorporated (GSCL) and the National Sports Commission is expected to bowl off on May 20 and teams have until Friday May 13 to indicate their willingness to participate.

The Indpendence tournament for male open and masters teams is the signature competition of the GSCL Inc and is known for overwhelming support from teams and spectators.

As of Wednesday May 11, there were three teams for the open competition and six teams in the masters category.

Teams that are already in with a chance of cashing in include defending champions Wolf Warriors, Regal XI and Speed Boat Sports Club in the open and Albion Masters, Regal Masters, Fishermen, Parika Defenders, Rubis and defending champions, Floodlights Masters in the Over-45 year old category.

Meanwhile, Regal Sport has thrown their support behind the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc for the staging of its Independence softball tournament in a tangible way.

Sherryann Persaud on behalf of Regal Sport presented an undisclosed sum amount of money to GSCL Inc.

Persaud indicated that Regal Sport is thrilled to be on board in such a way especially since its Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary.

She added that they are looking forward to a successful tournament and that she is absolutely passionate about the softball game.

The Regal Sport representative is positive that the tournament will produce some exciting matches and called on the fans for their support. She informed that the recently established Regal Sport sells a variety of sporting equipment including cricket, football, volleyball, chess, gym equipment and cricket uniforms and is willing to support other positive initiatives.

Jadbeer thanked the entity for the assistance and gave all assurance that this year’s 3-day tournament will be the biggest and best ever.

The entrance fee for either category is $50,000. The winning open team will pocket $100,000 and will get the winner’s trophy while the runner team will walk away with a trophy and $50,000. The masters’ champion will take home a trophy and $150,000 and the runner up team is guaranteed a trophy and $50,000.

The official tournament launch will take place on May 17 at 17:00hrs at GNIC Sports Club, Woolford Avenue. At the launch, the teams will be placed in pools for competition which will see matches at Malteenoes Sports Club and GNIC SC over the competition period, May 20, 21 and 22.
