Rehabilitation of Arthur Chung Conference Center on schedule

a team of Government officials headed by Public Telecommunications Minister Cathy Hughes was recently taken on a tour of rehabilitation works ongoing at the Arthur Chung Conference Center (ACCC).

The Engineer from the Public Infrastructure Ministry who has oversight of the works ongoing and the team of engineers from the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation guided the Minister and her team around the premises.

The Minister and her team were able to see the new foundations, sub-structures and bases that will gird every building in this complex. Additional damage had been discovered when the badly cracked perimeter flooring was raised; and now the sewage network also has to be replaced, along with the plumbing, several walls, stairs and flooring. The Minister was, however, assured that the original configuration of the Centre will remain.

The Arthur Chung Conference Center (ACCC) was closed on December 1, 2016 to facilitate major rehabilitation that is expected to last for between 18 and 24 months. Funded entirely by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the complex was constructed between 2004 and 2006; and this rehabilitation, which was written into the 2004 agreement, is being funded entirely by grant aid.

The Conference Center was a gift to Guyana.
