Reifer calls for more responsibility from WI batters

West Indies batting coach Floyd Reifer is calling for his unit to bat with more responsibility and control the game for longer periods.
The ongoing series is locked 1-0, and the final Test is set to bowl off today, Wednesday, December 17, in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand.
According to Reifer, batting time is a key element to success in Test matches. “We did not control the game for long periods, especially in the batting department. Going into this game, this is something we spoke about, and we want to improve upon. When we are in control of the situation, we must stay in control.”
“Sometimes you have to have tough conversations at this level. Justin has been batting well for some time, so it’s now time for him to continue to be consistent,” Reifer said.

The batting coach added, “We had a lot of starts in the second Test, but none of those starts were hundreds. We need to capitalise on those starts. We have to bat for long periods. We believe that once you bat for four hours plus in a Test, you are guaranteed a hundred.”
“All the pitches are green. The first two days are good for bowling. There are certain shots you can’t play early in the innings, so you have to be disciplined, and players must take more responsibility,” he added.
Additionally, Tagenarine Chanderpaul has not fully recovered from the side strain sustained prior to the second Test and has therefore been ruled out of the third and final Test.
The team’s performance analyst, Avenesh Seetaram, has returned home due to a personal family matter. The first ball of the third and final Test is expected to bowl off at 18:00h local time.
