Twenty-two-year-old Gabriella Chapman who is the current Miss Bartica Regatta will be representing Guyana at the upcoming Miss Jaycees International Carnival Show slated for July 30 in Antigua.
“Gabby”, as Chapman is commonly known, is an amiable person who thrives on learning and experiencing new things. She is also a well determined and vigorous individual, yet pleasantly calm.
She grew up in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) and constantly applauds her parents for bringing her up with high morals and sound education.
Graduating with nine subjects at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and walking away with the award for Best Graduating Student in English Language, Chapman went on to serve as an English, Agricultural Science and Health and Family Life Education teacher at the Bartica Secondary School.
It was during that year she discovered her love for children. Although this discovery was made, her ultimate goal is to become a lawyer.
At that tender age, the forceful speaker developed a passion for debating and participated in countless debating competitions throughout her school life; most of which she copped the best speaker prize. At just age 12, the beauty ambassador was made President of the debating club in her school.
She is currently pursuing a degree in Communication Studies at the University of Guyana after which she will venture into her law studies.
Despite her career choice, she loves the arts: fashion, modelling, singing, dancing, drama. To feed her passion, she participated in four pageants, namely, Mr and Ms University of Guyana Student Society pageant 2015 where she emerged as first runner-up; the Miss Emancipation 2016 pageant where she placed second runner-up; Miss Mash Queen 2017, where she was first runner-up; and Miss Bartica Regatta 2017 where she was crowned the queen.
During her involvement in pageantry, Gabby became an advocate for self-empowerment. She strongly believes that self-empowerment came from being “hungry” – hungry to succeed, hungry to achieve more in life, hungry to do the right thing and hungry to overcome any challenges that come your way.
It is with this same self-empowered mind set Chapman is heading to the 56th annual Miss Jaycees Queen Show, “hungry” – hungry to be an ambassador for her country, hungry to be a role model in society and hungry to make Guyana proud!
