Reis casts best ‘Net’ to be victorious

Veteran Golfer Clifford Reis was crowned champion of the inaugural Guyana Shore Base Inc. (GYSBI) Golf tournament played over the weekend at the Lusignan Golf Course.

Played under the 3-Flights Medal Play system, in which players were grouped by handicaps 0-9 for ‘A’ Flight; 10-18 for ‘B’ Flight, and 19-28 for ‘C’ Flight, and the lowest score received the win, the tournament was a refreshing and exciting challenge to all, as they jostled for top places.
In the ‘C’ Flight, Reis finished 64/25; while Haresh Tewari, with 71/19, was second. Following closely were Eion Blue (73/28), Guillermo Escarraga (74/21) and Robert Hanoman (75/28).
The ‘B’ flight category saw Gavin Todd (65/18) finishing on top, with Kalyan Tiwari (67/15) second and Shanella Webster (67/16) third.
In the ‘A’ Flight, two-time Guyana Open Champion Mohanlall Dinanauth (68/5) reigned supreme, while Munaf Arjune (73/9) was second and Jaipaul Suknanan (74/9) third.
Prizes were awarded for the top two finishers in each flight, Nearest to The Pin, the overall Best Gross, and the overall Best Net.
In addition, Golfers had some excellent tournament preparation as they ready themselves for next weekend’s international Guyana Open 2018 Golf Tournament, which commences on November 3 and ends the following day.
CEO of GYSBI, Mark Edwards, an avid golfer, in congratulating the winners and addressing all present, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be involved in golfing in Guyana, and pledged that this tournament would be an annual one.
Immediately following the Guyana Open, there will be tournaments sponsored by MACORP, Banks DIH, and Microsoft among others, and this will be followed by the Mariott’s largest charity tournament for the region, in January 2019.
