“Remain professional” – PSC head to Region 1 cops

Just as the Guyana Police Force is calling on the public to assist the Police in tackling crime and antisocial behaviour more effectively, Police ranks in Regional Division One (Barima-Waini) were urged to remain professional while on the job.
Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Patrick Finlay and his team visited the Mabaruma and Port Kaituma Stations District, North West District (NWD), where they interacted with ranks, particularly officers, and inspectors.
Meetings were held at the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Mabaruma, and the Regional Multi-Purpose Building in Port Kaituma, respectively, where several issues and concerns affecting ranks were raised and addressed.
The Chairman of the PSC during the discussion encouraged the ranks to remain committed and professional as they serve and protect the citizens of Guyana. He further added that the Commission will continue its work by visiting all regions, interacting with ranks, listening to their concerns, and addressing issues where applicable.

They were also encouraged to capitalise on all opportunities to study academically and complete all exams required for their upward mobility and career development.
A month ago, acting Police Commissioner Clifton Hicken reminded his ranks that professionalism is paramount for the public to have confidence in the Police Force. He had also warned that disciplinary action would be taken against any rank found in breach of existing policies.
“You are ambassadors of the organisation, you are the faces of the organisation, you are the broader side of the pyramid…you are at the operational level of the pyramid and this means that, inevitably, you are interacting with members of the public on a daily basis, more often than us at the senior level.
“As such, your deliberation with members of the public whom you are employed to serve and protect will speak volumes of the Guyana Police Force. Your actions will impact the organisation positively or negatively. In this regard, unethical behaviours will not be condoned,” acting Police Commissioner Hicken had said. (G9)
