Remar set to launch 90’s Flex mixtape this weekend

“There is not one particular thing—-it’s just something about EVERYTHING in the 90’s. From the fashion to the iconic movies and TV shows we got back then to the analog photos we now look back on from that era, and of course, the rich offerings of music we received from every imaginable genre,” these were the world of Guyanese artiste, Remar.

He noted that he was only fortunate to fully experience and remember the years of the tail-end of the 90’s, but those memories were vivid and have always inspired his craft. A quick listen to his music, and it would be very obvious that 90’s R&B and hip-hop have influenced his sound tremendously.
He connected with the super-talented Shamar “KINCOMARCO” Grant in late 2018, and the first beat which he heard from him carried a sample of “Flex” by Mad Cobra. His ability to flip samples and give it a modern feel immediately stood out to me from just that first beat.
As such, the Guyanese artiste felt compelled one day to create a song with a classic 90’s sample to pay homage to his love for an era that he considers to be golden. “What sample should I go with?’ was the question. In scouring for samples, it soon became clear to me that I was not going to be able to pick one or just do one song,” he noted.
He found the acapella version of “Always Be My Baby” by Mariah Carey online and met up with the sample wiz, Kinco, for him to try his hand at it. At the meeting, Remar explained the bounce, tempo and overall style he wanted for it and Kinco captured it PERFECTLY!
“That meetup birthed Miss Forever. We began meeting every Saturday for the next month and a half, and repeating the process that birthed Miss Forever. It usually involved me searching for acapellas, full songs or instrumentals from my favorite 90’s joints during the week and flipping them when we met in person on the weekend.”
He used the beats that were created during our sessions to talk about everything my life encompasses, from love and ambition to self-development and growth. Collaborating more with my peers was something high on his priority list as he was creating this EP, so reaching out to the likes of David Lyn to get on “Candy” or FlyGuy to get on No Assists was automatic.
The talented R&B Singer feels that music is the closest thing to time machines that everyone will ever have in real life; one note, one lyric, one melody can take us back to times and places like nothing else can. His intention with this project was to take listeners on an audible journey.
This was by far one of the most fun projects he had the pleasure of creating, and he is sure that the energy will be felt by every person that listens.
His live on-air radio mixtape album launch will be released this Sunday on HJ BOOM FM at 15:00h with entertainer, Rawle Ferguson.
