Remedial works to be done on Cane Grove main access road
Public Works Minister Juan Edghill, along with Minister within the Local Government and Regional Development Ministry Anand Persaud, on Thursday visited Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD) to inspect the main access road.
Residents and other users have found the road, which has been in a deplorable state for some time now, difficult to navigate.
The residents have been promised that remedial works would be conducted prior to scheduled reconstruction works that are set to be done on the road.
The Public Works Minister stated that owing to the inclement weather and trucks that are traversing the road, it has been severely damaged.
“As a result of the rain and the movement of heavy vehicles, we have sections that have been deteriorated that the taxis and private cars are finding it difficult to navigate without getting damage.”
He further revealed that the next step for the ministry was getting the work done.
“This road is an important road. It has a rice mill – people have to get their produce out… we got to get the remedy done. That’s the way we’re going to do our work; bringing satisfaction to the people and that’s what we commit to do – serve the people of Guyana.”
It was noted that $200 million is allocated to do sectional repairs on the road. This contract was awarded to Colin Talbot Construction.
Additionally, three other roads within the village are set to be completed as well. The Cane Grove Public Road was set to be completed by July 12, but was delayed owing to several factors, including inclement weather.
As a result, the Minister called for the immediate completion of the works.
