Repeat offender back in court for assaulting GDF rank

A 23-year-old Agricola, Greater Georgetown resident who was slapped with a string of armed robbery charges in 2017 and 2019 is once again back in court, but this time, for assaulting a Police Officer.

Antonio Maraj

The popular court character, Antonio Maraj, was on Friday placed before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts for assaulting Police Sergeant John Mohamed on February 8, 2020, with intent to prevent the lawful apprehension of Kennedy Fraser.
An unrepresented Maraj pleaded not guilty to the allegation when it was read by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly.
Bail was objected by Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh based on the grounds that the defendant is no stranger to the court and the fact that he gave a different address to the court.
As such, Magistrate Daly upheld the prosecution’s submission and made no hesitation in remanding the defendant to prison.
The matter was adjourned to March 20, 2020.
