Repeat offender Asif Mohammed, recently released from prison after serving an 18- month sentence for larceny, was on Friday sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by City Magistrate Leron Daly after he admitted to stealing an air conditioning (AC) unit valued at 5,400, property of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The court was told that the act was committed on October 8th, 2017.
Unrepresented by legal counsel, Mohammed casually told Magistrate Daly that view while he was at the medical facility, he noticed parts of the unit hanging in full view, and accordingly he took it.
Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh revealed that Mohammed was arrested after he was observed by security at the hospital removing the unit.
Mohammed was previously jailed for stealing a gold chain and diamond ring. As such, the six months’ sentence was handed down to him.
