Repeat offender Colwyn Harding remanded for robbery

The infamous victim of alleged sexual assault in 2013involving two Police ranks exited the courtroom in defeat as he once again appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Wednesday, this time for an alleged Lime Street, Georgetown robbery.

Appearing before Magistrate Fabayo Azore was Colwyn Harding, charged for robbing Virtual Complainant (VC), Ray Margaret Baird on April 15, 2017, of three cellular phones valued $160,000 and a pair of glasses valued 48,000 among other items.

The 26-year-old vendor denied the allegation, and disclosed that he was a father of one, permanently residing in West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

The defendant was remanded to prison along with an accomplice in November last for the joint charge of robbery with violence by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan. He subsequently found himself on the streets again after being relieved of the charge.

Harding had alleged (in 2013) that he was brutally raped with a police baton and otherwise assaulted by two Police Officers while in custody at the Timehri Police Station. The matter was, however, dismissed in March last year by Magistrate Leron Daly owing to insufficient evidence.

Moreover, Harding was freed of an armed robbery charge by Magistrate Judy Latchman in 2015 after the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against him.

The present matter is adjourned to May 3, 2017 owing to the incomplete state of the prosecution’s file and Harding remains incarcerated.
