Repeat offenders 46-year-old Patrick Smith, of Lot 164 Cortha Street, Albouystown, and 25-year-old Linton Trotman, of Lot 128 Guyhoc Park, Georgetown, were on Friday taken to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts after
they were charged with theft.
The duo stood before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly and denied the charge, which detailed that between January 10 and January 11, 2019 at King Street, Georgetown, they broke and entered Bassant’s Trading and stole $13 million, property of Bissoondyal Deodasingh.
Smith was unrepresented while Trotman was represented by Attorney Euclin Gomes, who, in an unsuccessful bail application, asked that his client be released on reasonable bail.
However, Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh informed the court that both defendants have been previously charged and have pending matters in court.
Prosecutor Singh also objected to bail on the grounds that both defendants were
well-known characters to the Police.
The prosecution’s submission was upheld, and the duo were remanded to prison. The case will continue on February 11, 2019.
