Republic Bank, ANSA McAL make financial contributions to Mash celebrations
With Mashramani swiftly approaching, two major sponsors of the celebration over the past years on Wednesday made monetary contributions toward upcoming festivities.
Republic Bank Guyana and ANSA McAL Trading handed over the donations during a simple ceremony at the Ministry of Social Cohesion’s Main Street office.
Some $3 million was given by Republic Bank, while ANSA McAL did not disclose the sum donated, these monies are expected to go towards two Mash competitions, specifically the steel pan contest which kick-starts on February 13, and the 592 Soca Monarch semi-finals, which is set for this weekend in Linden.
Social Cohesion Minister George Norton, who holds the responsibility for culture, youth and sport, extended gratitude for the organisations’ continued support, which, according to him, is responsible for the resurgence of steel pan music as well as the creation of local stars.
Meanwhile, in brief remarks, Republic Bank’s Acting Communications Department Manager Jenelle Dummett noted that the Bank will continue to invest into developing the art form.
“Republic Bank is pleased to continue our investment in the development and resurgence of steel pan in Guyana. This is our twelfth year sponsoring the competition but we’re not just sponsoring we’re are supporting and developing an art form that would’ve had some challenges over the year.”
Similar sentiments were expressed by the representative of ANSA McAL.
The Ministry had previously announced that it has budgeted to spend $219M for the country’s grand Republic Day celebrations, which includes some 50 activities to cover all 10 administrative regions.
