Response to Kit Nascimento

Dear Editor,
I refer to the letter from Mr Kit Nascimento, “Save our country from the awful consequences of dictatorial rule” (GY Times 4-18-20). Mr Nascimento gave us a very succinct summary of the efforts of the PNC-led APNU/AFC cabal to rig the elections of March 2, after the Guyanese citizenry had voted peacefully and responsibly.
As has been pointed out, including by himself, Mr Nascimento has been involved in the politics of Guyana since the 1960s, starting out as a member of the United Force (UF) which was to enter into a coalition with the PNC in 1964 allowing the latter to form the Government that was to lead our country into independence.
However, even though it has been copiously documented that the elections of 1968, 1973, 1980 and 1985 plus a referendum of 1978 were all massively rigged to give the PNC “victories”, David Granger and other members of the PNC had doggedly rejected that conclusion.
As an individual who was in the inner circles of the Government during those years, including being a Minister, I believe that Mr Nascimento has a duty to himself and the people of Guyana to set the record straight on the issue of PNC rigging, just as he has done for the present elections.
Confession is good for both the national and individual soul. And maybe in the lustration, Mr Granger might just possibly accept the futility of his present barefaced rigging attempt.

Sincerely,
Ravi Ram
