Restart of cricket high on agenda at BCB meeting

The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) will host a special meeting at the BCB office in New Amsterdam on Tuesday July 27 at 16:15h. High on the agenda is the restart of local cricket in the ancient county come September.

BCB President Hilbert Foster

Other important topics for discussion are: the general rules of the BCB for the season to restart; production of financial statement; the President’s Report; cricket academies and coaching programmes; gear donated from England for distribution across Berbice; discussion on coaching manual; relationship with other cricket boards and the GCB; induction to different Halls of Fame; and preparation of grounds across Berbice.
The BCB is hereby informing all cricket leaders and clubs that they should commence preparing their venues as soon as possible. BCB intends to restart the 2021 season in September at the under-13, under-15 under-17, under-19, under-23, second division, female, and first division levels.

Cricketers are urged to be fully vaccinated for the return of cricket in Berbice

The BCB has noted an improvement in the weather, and has said clubs should take advantage of that circumstance. The BCB has approximately 20 tournaments to complete before the current executives’ term in office expires.
According to the BCB, “The time span might only allow us to host one or two first division tournaments, while second division tournaments which are in progress would be completed. No new sponsorship would be acquired for now. Please get your venues in order. The BCB, over the last two months, had distributed a total of twenty-one grass cutters to assist clubs in their preparation. You are also reminded that President Hilbert Foster would be meeting all clubs in the County on August 11 at the Albion Ground in another one of his countywide discussions.”
Foster has warned that the BCB would restart cricket under very strict COVID-19 guidelines, noting that the health and safety of players and officials are the main concern of his administration.
Foster is urging all cricketers to be fully vaccinated, as those not vaccinated would not be allowed to participate in cricket tournaments organised by the BCB.
