RHTY&SC hosting “Water is Life” Under-17 tournament
In partnership with the Guyana Water Inc, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club M.S will be hosting “Water is Life” under-17 Cricket tournament for sixteen teams in the county of Berbice.
Speaking at a simple ceremony on Monday at GWI’s Vlissingen Road headquarters, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the club Hilbert Foster expressed kind sentiments for the support of the utility company and their swiftness in forging the partnership. Foster revealed that “my meeting with Dr. [Richard] Van West-Charles lasted less than ten minutes when I approached for sponsorship.”
The CEO indicated the tournament will be well organised and GWI will be well promoted as they seek to achieve all their objectives.
Gale Doris, Director of Human Resources, Management and Development disclosed that her company is more than happy to be in partnership with the sports club, applauding them for their active involvement in sports and more so having females team involved in the tournament. Doris further asked that the club guide young sports men and women to have the balance between sport and academics as many times they would forsake either of the two to focus on one. The 50-over tournament will be played on a knock-out basis and caters for players born on or after September 1, 2000. Guyana’s only female team, Metro Females and will be allowed to play players above the age group as part of their developmental programme.
Among the teams set to participate are Bush Lot United, Young Achievers, Blairmont, Young Warriors, Rose Hall Town Pepsi “A”, Rose Hall Town Pepsi “B”, No.73, Skeldon, Tucker Park, Metro Females among others. The winning team will take home $40,000 and trophy, so as the runner-up team and man-of-the finals will also be recipients of cash prizes.
It is also understood that the company will donate a carton of trophies towards RHTY&SC 2017 list of the targeted 500 sporting and educational activities.
