RHTY&SC to award Region 6 top NGSA students

The eight cricket teams of the vibrant Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS, will this coming Friday break new ground with the hosting of another new programme under the Club’s highly successful “Say Yes to Education” Campaign.
The teams along with their senior counterparts of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Over-35 Group would be hosting the first edition of their “Top Ten Awards Ceremony”. Under this programme, the ten top National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) students in Region Six would be honoured.
Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, Hilbert Foster, has said that the executives of the Club approved the programme during their weekly meeting on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, as they felt the outstanding students should be recognised and honoured as role models.
The main objective of the “Say Yes to Education” campaign is to encourage youths to stay in school and complete their education.
The campaign has, over the years, included educational sponsorships; assistance to schools and less fortunate students; distribution of school bags, exercise books and educational materials; hosting of educational competitions, billboards, youth information booklets, posters, magazines, Award Scheme; tributes to outstanding teachers; and television commercials and programmes, among other things.
The Top Ten Programme is another major step by the eight cricket teams to make sure that every youth in Berbice fulfills his/her potential in the classroom. They would also unveil another major programme on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 when they would host the first ever RHTYSC/DMLAS Teachers of the Year Award Ceremony.
Six outstanding teachers from primary and secondary levels would be honoured with a prize package worth 0,000.00 along with trophies, medals and certificates.
Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Barton Scotland, would be the Guest Speaker at the Awards Ceremony, which would also include the Graduation Ceremony of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Cricket Academy and the distribution of close to M worth of school bags, exercise books, bicycles and cricket balls to students and clubs.
The Top Ten Students to be honoured are Matthew Ramlochan, Yadram Totaram, John Ramdin, Allyssa Griffith, Denish Somai, Dimitri Williams, Sherisa Chaturi, Nick Rama, Purnima Totaram and Medeina Lionel. They would each receive a trophy, medal, framed certificate, and educational materials. The event would be sponsored by a West Indies senior cricketer.
