Rice farmer dies after tractor plunges into trench

Police are investigating an incident in Black Bush Polder that claimed the life of a 43-year-old rice farmer, Sunil Rampersaud, from Mibicuri South, Berbice. Rampersaud was killed on Monday afternoon when the tractor he was driving flipped into a trench.
The incident occurred around 16:40h as Rampersaud drove an unregistered motor tractor along the Three Bridge Access Dam in Mibicuri South. According to police, Rampersaud was proceeding south along the dam at what was described as a normal speed. However, as he approached a wooden bridge and began to make a right turn, he reportedly lost control of the tractor. The vehicle then veered off course and overturned, plunging into a nearby trench.
Bystanders quickly pulled Rampersaud from the water. He was rushed to the Mibicuri Public Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Rampersaud’s body has been transferred to Ramoo’s Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
