Rice mill worker narrowly escapes death

– after ton sack laden with paddy fell on him

A man, said to be in his forties, narrowly escaped death on Thursday afternoon after a ton sack laden with paddy came crashing down onto him. The incident occurred around 13:30h at the Golden Fleece Rice Investment owned by Nazeemul Hakh at Golden Fleece, Essequibo Coast in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).

According to information reaching Guyana Times, the man known as “Cheezie” was in the bond when a ton sack of paddy dropped on top of him. Other employees who were in the bond at the time immediately went to his rescue and removed the paddy sack. He was then taken by his daughter to the hospital where he remains a patient due to injuries he received.

It is unsure how the incident may have happened but the Region Two Labour Department is said to have launched an investigation.
