The ‘rich legacy’ continues when President of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC), Cecil Kennard received a hefty sponsorship from Metro Office and Computer Supplies Chief Executive Officer, Avia Lindie, in the entity’s boardroom at Quamina Street, Georgetown.
A sum of $1.2 million was handed to Kennard by Lindie to mark the 11th year of sponsorship from Metro for the KMTC Boxing Day Horse Race Meet. A rise in sponsorship by $100,000 from 2015.
The prize money will go to the winner of the B and Lower W/ A winner, who will run the track for a distance of nine furlongs or 1 1/8 miles.
According to Lindie, the sponsorship is just the continuation of the rich legacy between the two entities, Metro and KMTC, which dates back to almost four decades. That legacy has evolved over the years thus Metro sees the need to continue with its support for the sport of horse racing at the KMTC.
Kennard praised the company for its contribution as he lamented about his relationship with Metro which he says dates back to decades ago. He also dubbed the Boxing Day event as the ultimate thriller on KMTC sport calendar.
KMTC Boxing Day Meet is in its 44th year and this year is expected to be a very competitive and exciting event featuring eight races.
