Richmond man who stalked ex-lover on threatening language charge

Twyane Smith of Richmond Village on the Essequibo Coast was on Wednesday granted ,000 bail for using threatening language towards his ex-lover. Smith made his first appearance before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.
According to the prosecution’s case, on April 20, Smith made use of threatening language towards Simone Alves. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, and raised the question of why he would travel all the way to Onderneeming to abuse his ex.
However, the Virtual Complaint told the Court that Smith would make contact with his exes and when they ignored him, he would become abusive and hurl obscene language at them. She said on numerous occasions, he threatened to kill her and he has a history of abusing his exes. Additionally, she told the Court that she has moved on with her life and was getting married in August. She pleaded with the Magistrate to stop Smith from contacting her.
The Court was also told that Smith was found guilty of a similar offence in the past and was jailed.
After listening to both parties, Magistrate Scarce granted Smith bail on the condition he report to the Anna Regina Police Station every Monday and Thursday.
He also warned him to refrain from contacting Alves. The matter was adjourned to May10.
