Rio All Stars, Sparta Boss keep it clean in President’s Cup

The President’s Cup futsal tournament got off to a rocket start on Tuesday night at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
The straight knockout action featured the usual suspects on the futsal scene and a number of ‘top teams’, namely Sparta Boss, Rio All-Stars and Gold is Money.
In the first game of the night, Future Stars kept Quiet Storm very quiet as they registered a 2-0 victory. Sparta Boss, after looking bleak in the Magnum Mash Cup, returned with fresh vigor to thump Up-Top Bosses 4-0.
Even after a long trip, the Berbice All-Stars sipped victory when they came up against Melanie. Berbice won by a 3-1 margin. Albouystown and Showstoppers found themselves locked in a 1-1 fix at the end of regulation time. Heading to the penalty mark, Showstoppers stayed true to their name and shut down Albouystown’s show with a 5-4 victory.
Swag Entertainment later ousted Alexander Village following a narrow 2-1 win. North East La Penitence and Beterverwagting’s meeting ended in a nil-all stalemate, making way for penalty kicks. North East barely grabbed victory with a 1-0 score. Rio All-Stars, who are preparing to compete in the Magnum Mash Cup final this Saturday, had a good warm-up as they brushed aside Broad Street 3-1.
In the final game of the night, Gold is Money humbled Smyth Street in a 2-0 encounter.
The quarter-finals of the President’s Cup tournament will see Swag Entertainment battling Future Stars while Gold is Money take on Berbice All-Stars while Showstoppers will lock horns with Rio All-Stars and Sparta Boss will look to get the better of North East La Penitence.
