Rising Stars Women’s U19 T20… T&T edge Guyana in low-scoring contest

Guyana’s Under-19 Women will have to wait for their first win in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 T20 competition after suffering a three-wicket loss to Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday, which came on the heels of a no-result against Barbados the day prior.
Guyana won the toss and opted to bat first on Sunday at the Liberta Sports Club Ground in Antigua and Barbuda.
It was a rocky start for the Guyanese top order as Jada Fraser departed for 7 and Sara Bheir for just 4. A duck from Brianna Samaroo followed while Kaiana Leitch pitched in with two as Guyana were reduced to 37-4 by the 10th over.
At the other end, multi-sport maestro Allia Henry held firm, hitting an almost run-a- ball 22 decorated by four fours.
Akeelah Stephen contributed 12 while a late push from the lower order saw Jaraya Rodrigues and Rossanna Patterson both remaining unbeaten for eight runs apiece. As such, Guyana could only manage 79-7 in their 20 overs, boosted by 13 extras.

Samara Ramnath was the pick of the Trinidadian bowlers, claiming 3-20 from four overs; Brianna Harricharan, Sian Ramnarine and Amrita Ramtahal had one scalp each.
Trinidad had a similar meltdown in the opening of their innings as their Captain Ramnath could only muster five runs, Ramtahal one and Jannah Mohammed six and Seraiah Kawalsingh two to be reduced to 39-4 in 9 overs.
However, Harricharan and Jessica Davis combined forces to steady the Trinidadian ship. Harricharan hit 17 from 24 deliveries while Davis pitched in with 19 from 15 to bring T&T close to their target.
Some light work from the lower order saw Trinidad getting over the line in 16.1 overs with three wickets to spare.
Kaiana Leitch snared 3-16 from four overs, and was supported by Henry, Shenesa Thomas and Captain Danellie Manns, all with one wicket.
In other results on the day, Jamaica defeated Leeward Islands by six wickets while Barbados enjoyed a nine-wicket victory over Windward Islands.
Guyana’s U19 ladies will be hunting their first win when they take on Jamaica’s Women on Tuesday, August 11 at the Coolidge Cricket Ground. The first ball is expected to be bowled at 14:00h.
