…bandit fires warning shot, escapes on foot with accomplice
Five individuals who were working on a road construction project at ‘A’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown were on Tuesday morning attacked and robbed by two bandits while they were seeking shelter from the rain in a heavy-duty container.
The incident occurred at about 10:00h, when the workers sought shelter in a container in a nearby street after it began to rain heavily. While they were waiting for the rain to stop, the workers were approached by the perpetrators, one of whom was armed with a gun.
Police say the bandits assaulted the workers and ordered them to surrender their belongings.
One of the perpetrators discharged one round inside the container before the bandits barricaded their victims and made good their escape on foot.
One of the victims, a 25-year-old construction worker, was robbed of a Samsung J-20 cellular phone valued at $35,000, a Blu cellular phone valued at $6,000, and $5,000 in cash.
Another of the victims, a 21-year-old labourer, was robbed of a Samsung Galaxy A-31 cellular phone valued at $56,000, a gold ring valued at $30,000, and $7,000 in cash.
A third victim, a 32-year-old Operator/Supervisor, was robbed of a Samsung F-E cellular phone valued at $130,000, a gold ring valued at $50,000, two silver rings valued at $40,000, two silver chains valued at $25,000, two silver bands (value unknown), one black leather wallet valued at $1,500, and $70,000 in cash.
A 20-year-old labourer who was also a victim of the incident was robbed of a ZTE cellphone valued at $32,000, a silver chain valued at $10,000, and 5,000 in cash; while the fifth victim of the robbery, a 42-year-old labourer, was robbed of $4,000 cash. (G11)
