Rose Hall man busted with ganja at roadblock

A 23-year-old man’s luck ran out on Saturday after he was busted with 4500 grams of marijuana on the Weldaad Public Road, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
The victim, who was identified as Vickey Doodnauth of Rose Hall, Berbice, was arrested with the marijuana by Police at around 12:30h on Saturday on the Weldaad Public Road.
Based on reports received, Police were conducting a roadblock exercise during which they stopped a minibus in which Doodnauth was an occupant. As such, Police requested to conduct a search during which five wrapped parcels containing the ganja were found in a black haversack Doodnauth was carrying at the time.
Doodnauth was told of the offence, arrested and cautioned. He admitted ownership of the said suspected cannabis. Investigations are ongoing.
One day ago, Police had arrested a 40-year-old woman of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, with 9525.4 grams of cannabis.
It was reported that ranks were conducting a roadblock exercise when they stopped a hire car and conducted a search. At the time, there were two passengers in the vehicle, which included the woman.
According to Police, further searches on the vehicle unearthed a multi-coloured shopping bag that was in the trunk. Upon investigating, two wrapped parcels containing the marijuana were found. The woman was arrested and is in Police custody as investigation continues.
