Rose Hall Town Namilco Thunderbolt Flour, Albion to clash in Saturday’s final
BCB/RHTY&SC/Busta Champion of Champions 40-over tournament…
The Area H Ground located in Guyana’s smallest township is expected to come alive on Saturday when the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) hosts the final of the 2019 BCB/Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC)/Busta Champion of Champions cricket tournament.
Ball one of the 40-over match will bowl off at 10:30h and will feature Berbice’s top two First-Division teams. The organisers are expecting a top-class final with both teams featuring several top players.
BCB President Hilbert Foster has described the 16th edition of the tournament as a resounding success despite the decision of the cricket powers of Guyana to stop national contracted players from playing in a tournament by the BCB. This, Foster stated, is totally unfair, but no vindictive action would affect the train of progress that the Ancient County has enjoyed over the last 20 months.
Playing at home, Rose Hall Town Namilco Thunderbolt Flour would be led by former national player Eon Hooper, who has been enjoying a good year all-round in his first season as Captain. In the absence of Clinton Pestano, Kevlon Anderson and Kevin Sinclair, Namilco Thunderbolt Flour’s batting will be led by Junior Sinclair, Jason Sinclair, Surendra Kissoonlall, Eon Hooper, Jonathan Rampersaud, and Keith Simpson along with veterans Khemraj Mahadeo and Delbert Hicks.
Pacers Keon Sinclair and Sylus Tyndall lead a strong fast bowling attack which receives strong support from off-spinners Junior Sinclair, Khemraj Mahadeo, Hooper, and Rampersaud; left-arm spinner Keith Simpson and leg-spinner Shawn Pereira.
Albion would be affected by the absence, owing to the ban, of Devendra Bishoo, Anthony Bramble, Veerasammy Permaul and Gudakesh Motie, but still have a strong team in both batting and bowling. National player Jonathan Foo leads the batting and will receive support from Kandasammy Surujnarine, Rajiv Ivan, Sharaz Ramcharran, David Latchaya, Jetendra Outar, Ritesh Umroa and Sarwan Chaitnarine.
The Albion spin-bowling attack will be led by national youth player Kelvin Umroa with support coming from Ivan, Ramcharran, Sarwan, Mahendra Chaitnarine, Surujnarine, Latchaya and Foo. The winning team will pocket $100,000 and the runners-up $50,000 while the Man of the Final will also be rewarded with prizes.
