Rotary Club to host annual Day of Sports

– 20 rehab centres to compete

The Rotary Club of Georgetown Guyana is scheduled to host its annual Day of Sports on September 23 at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Ground, Bourda. With over 30 events, and with 20 rehabilitation centres participating, the crowd is certain to be entertained whilst supporting a worthy cause.

President of the Rotary Club of Georgetown, Ralph Persaud, and other members, has invited all persons with disabilities to come out and participate, even if they are not associated with a community-based rehab centre.
Each participant will receive a prize, while the top three finishers will be given special prizes.
Proceeding will commence at 8:00 hrs promptly, as released by the Rotary Club. Events such as the 25m Assisted Walk Open (use of walking aid); 25m Limited Mobility Walk (Open); 50m dash boys 8-11 (Intellectual Disability), 50m dash girls 8-11 (Intellectual Disability), 50m dash boys 12-16 (Intellectual Disability) and 50m dash girls 12-16 (Intellectual Disability).
Some of the clubs participating are East Bank Special Needs School, Lion’s School for Children with Special Needs, Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre, Guyana Society for the Blind, Linden Centre for the Handicapped, St. Roses Visually Impaired Unit, and David Rose School for the Handicapped.
These events would not be a major success without some of their major sponsors coming on board to help strengthen and ensure that everything is successful on the desired day. With the likes of giants such as ExxonMobil Guyana, GT&T, Digicel, Scotia Bank, Republic Bank, Citizen Bank, Banks DIH, Kings Jewellery and Namilco.
As part of the drive among the many sponsors Seaboard Overseas Trading Group, which is the parent company of Namilco (the National Milling Company of Guyana Inc.) donated the sum of US$5,000 (approximately GYD$1,030,000) to the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre (PRRC) on Wednesday August 15, who will be participating in the upcoming day of sports.
