Round of 16 kicks off tonight

Following the conclusion of round-robin action, the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue will be the battleground this evening when the round of 16 kicks off in the Magnum Tonic Wine Mashramani Cup Futsal Championship with several mouth-watering match-ups.

The evening will commence at 19:00h with Spartacus against Broad St, with Sophia opposing Ansa McAL All-Stars at 19:30h and Bent Street locking horns with Kingston from 20:00h. Sparta Boss will then take centre stage against Kingston at 20:30h, while Gold is Money engage Alexander Village at 21:00h and Leopold Street tackle Avocado Ballers from 21:30h.
In the final two encounters, Albouystown lock horns with Back Circle at 22:00h and Future Stars battle Rio All-Stars from 22:30h.

Meanwhile, Sparta Boss, Sophia, Future Stars and Bent Street maintained their respective unbeaten records following wins in the final group round at the same venue on Tuesday.
Sparta Boss dismantled Bad-a-Yard 6-1. Keifer Brandt recorded a hat-trick in the sixth, eighth and 10th minute, while Sheldon Shepherd, Gregory Richardson and Dennis Edwards netted in the third, fourth and seventh minute respectively. For the losers, Selassie Rutherford scored in the fifth minute.
Similarly, Bent Street crushed North East La Penitence 3-0. Jermaine Beckles, Colin Nelson and William Europe scored in the 11th, 14th and 16th minute respectively. On the other hand, Sophia defeated Broad Street 5-3.
Dwayne Lowe recorded a helmet trick in the fourth, seventh, ninth and 12th minute. There was an own goal in the fourth minute. Akeem Sam bagged a brace in the third and eighth minute for the losers, while Ryan Dowding netted in the fifth minute.
Similarly, Future Stars bested Alexander Village 2-0. Kenard Simon and Daniel Ross were on target in the fifth and 11th minute respectively. In other results, Albouystown upset Gold is Money 1-0, while Avocado Ballers downed Showstoppers 2-0.
Also, Stabroek Ballers defeated Belfield Warriors 1-0, while Kingston defeated Island All-Stars via walkover. The quarter-finals will commence on Saturday, February 8.
The winner of the event will pocket $700,000 and the championship trophy, while the second-place side will collect $400,000 and the respective accolade. The third and fourth place units will receive $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding trophy.
