Secretaries, Managers and Captains of 23 Clubs recently attended the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association’s (UCCA) official launching of the Roy Baijnauth 20/20 competition.
Held at the # 73 Village Cricket Club on Thursday December 20, clubs in attendance were; # 43 Scorpions, # 48 Challengers, # 59 Youth & Sports Club, The Yakasari Caribs, # 68,, # 69 Vikings, # 64 Fighting Marines, Guns & Roses, # 72 all Stars, # 77 Sports Club, Crab Wood Creek Sports Club, # 71 Cricket Club, # 70 Cricket Club, # 70 MYO, Bomb Squad, All Family, # 70 Young Blood, # 73 young Warriors, # 72 Cut & Load, Skeldon Super Kings, Skeldon Titans, Scotsburg Cricket Club, and # 69 Red Rose.
Those present were enthusiastic about cricket being brought back to the area of Upper Corentyne as a period of dormancy took effect since 2012. President of the UCCA, Hamant Jagdeo, said to the large gathering of Clubs, that he was satisfied with the huge outpouring of support he has received from the Clubs, thus assuring that this competition is just one of many that the UCCA will be hosting for the development of cricket in the area.
Meanwhile, Vadanand Sugrim, Secretary of the UCCA, said the association will spare no efforts in ensuring that all Clubs are involved, and empowered. He said that the Competition at hand, the Roy Baijnauth 20/20 will be of a high standard, properly monitored and administered.
UCCA will provide balls and qualified Umpires for all the games in all the rounds of the competition, he said. Cash Incentives and trophies will be given to deserving teams. A monitoring committee will be set up to gather statistics, and other data to compile player profiles in the area.
Following the drawing, Assistant Secretary and Chairman of the Competitions Committee, Lakhram Lathman, announced that venues will be announced to teams in a timely manner, as well as printed copies of the 20/20 rules. The Competition is scheduled to bowl off from January 7, 2018.
The Drawing determined the following: # 72 Cut & Load vs. # 59 YSC, Scotsburg vs. # 68, Guns & Roses vs. # 70 CC, # 70 MYO vs. # 64 Fighting Marines, All Family vs. Yakasari Caribs, Bomb Squad vs. # 72 all Star, Skeldon Super Kings vs. # 77 Sports Club, # 69 Red Rose vs. # 48 Challengers, # 70 Young Blood vs. # 43 Scorpions, # 73 Young Warriors vs. Crab Wood Creek Sports Club, Skeldon Titans vs. # 77 Cricket Club. # 69 Vikings drew bye to the next round of the competition.
