Rutherford’ 6-32 decimates Volcanoes

Guyana Jaguars all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford grabbed career best figures of 6-32 to architect the demise of Windward Volcanoes in their second round clash of the 2017/2018 Cricket West Indies (CWI) Digicel Regional 4-day championship at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia on Thursday.
The medium-pacer in just his third First-Class match played a leading role in limiting the home side to 151 all out in 50.4 overs which the Jaguars are 117-4 in response, still trailing by 34 runs at stumps on the first day.

Skipper Leon Johnson inserted Volcanoes on a surface knowing to be of great assistance to the faster men and rewards soon came with Romario Shepherd removing Tyrone Theophile in just the second over of the day.
By lunch, Volcanoes were 81-4 with Gian Benjamin on five and Kavem Hodge on 26. The post lunch session was where the right-arm seam of the Demrara Cricket Club player made the resounding impact, slicing through the inexperienced middle-order.
Benjamin went unto make 24 (2x4s) while Hodge, a former West Indies under-19 player narrowly missed his third half-century at this level after striking five fours and one six.
In response, Jaguars received two early set back with the dismal of Rajendra Chandrika (0), Tagenarine Chanderpaul (01) and Johnson (07). However, Chandrapaul Hemraj continued to be positive at the crease, stroking his second half-century in as many matches to rally the three-time defending champions response.
The compact left-hander stroked five fours and one six in his 69-ball innings while Test player Vishaul Singh who returned to the side after his A-team duties nudged his way to an unbeaten 34 after the duo added 67 for the fourth wicket.
Singh and Bramble whose on 13 will look to secure handsome lead for Jaguars when play resumes at today 10:00 hrs.
