Rutherford to leave IPL 2021 following death of father

Guyanese cricketer Sherfane Rutherford will reportedly return home from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 following the passing of his father Orin.
Shortly after sharing the news about the death of his father, 58-year-old Orin Rutherford, via an Instagram post on Thursday morning, the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise announced that the batsman would be returning home to be with his family.
“The #SRH family conveys its heartfelt condolences to Sherfane Rutherford and his family on the passing away of his father.
“Sherfane will be leaving the IPL bio-bubble to be with his family in this difficult hour,” the team disclosed in a social media post on Thursday.
Rutherford was called up to the IPL franchise for the resumption of the T20 competition after Jonny Bairstow withdrew.
Also sharing their condolences was the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), who shared: “The President and members of the Berbice Cricket Board would like to extend our deepest condolences to Sherfane Rutherford on the shocking death of his dad. It must be very painful for this young man, who was only recently call up for duties at the Indian Premier League, and then to lose your father and role model. It is our sincere hope that Jesus would bless you and your family during these difficult moments.
“Death may take away the physical remains of our loved ones, but it cannot take the memories of them. Our deepest sympathies to you and the other members of your family.”
It has been reported that the senior Rutherford succumbed as a result of COVID-19 complications.
