Safe Space – a community created for women

Safe Space is a community created for women; a home away from home. It is meant to give women the opportunity to have a support system in each other.
Safe Space is also a collaborative space where women can rent shelves, racks and stations for their businesses.
The business aspect of Safe Space will be used to fund the community and provide amenities for women.
What fuelled the pursuit of starting Safe Space?
“I always had the instinct to protect others. It just came naturally to me. Even when I was going through things myself, I’d put it aside to help others because I realised the importance of having a strong support system,” founder of the organisation and feminist Nadine A Jalil-Rahat explained.

“I also knew I had a much better ability to cope with difficulties. When it comes to matters of mental health, women’s right advocacy or any other seemingly hard topic I was always vocal especially speaking out on domestic abuse. I’m also surrounded by strong women who make things happen, especially my mom, sister and mother-in-law. These women shatter glass ceilings every day with their strength and potential. Lastly, I think that creating a community for women by women is much needed especially to those who feel the need to be a part of same. It always was, but now I have the capacity to do it.”
Nadine elaborated that together as women we are stronger and can make the true difference.
As the space grows and business blooms, here are some plans Safe Space has in store:
* Monthly conferences by highly regarded women in different fields.
* Partnership with psychologists who will volunteer some of their time to speaking with women who may need it.
* Granting small loans to women who are trying to start a business.
* A physical space for women to study, work and socialise.
If you think there are other things that can be done to facilitate a community like this, feel free to send the founder a message. Additionally, if you or someone you know would like to participate in the future plans of Safe Space, feel free to contact same on (592) 649-0275.
