Saints’ junior chess championships begin Thursday

Junior chess players will this week have opportunity to show off their skills when the Saint Stanislaus College host their third annual chess championships from Thursday, May 17, from 16:00h at the Saints auditorium. Competition will run until Saturday, May 19.
Organized by the Saints Chess Club, Guyana Chess Federation, the Wendell Meusa Chess Foundation and the National Sports Commission, this competition will have play in two categories, namely Invitational and Open.
The Invitational section will feature Guyana’s top junior players, such as Jaden Taylor and Ethan Lee, who recently received international chess ranking from the World Chess Federation (FIDE). Ghansham Allijohn, Keon Scott, Akili Theophil, national junior champion Joshua Gopaul, and defending Saints Champion Jarrell Troyer will also be competing for supremacy.
Players from the Saints Stanislaus Chess Club, Marian Academy Chess Club, Mae’s Schools, Albouystown Chess Club (Open Minds), and Christ Church Secondary School Chess Club have already confirmed their participation in the event.
