Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Anand Sanasie has revealed that he will be in support of the newly elected Berbice Cricket Board (BCB).
Speaking briefly to Guyana Times Sport on Monday in a personal capacity, the long-time cricketer administrator stated “I’m in support of any administration once they are properly elected.”
On Sunday, Dhierandranauth Somwaru was elected as the new President of the BCB when they body held its court-ordered elections after 3 years.
Imtiaz Baccus, David Black and Winston Roberts were elected as the three vice-presidents while Vickram Seubarran (Secretary), Carol Nurse (Assistant Secretary), Godwyn Allicock (Treasurer) and Leslie Solomon (Assistant Treasurer) were then elected to the executive. It is understood, Black and Baccus are the BCB’s representatives at the national level.
Based on reports emanating from the ancient county, the elections were not fairly held since only Berbice River Association, West Berbice Cricket Association along with first-division clubs Albion and Port Mourant were allowed to vote, leaving clubs such as Blairmont Cricket Club – were given the opportunity to vote, but declined in solidarity, Canje Hospital Club, Rose Hall Community Centre Cricket Club, Guymine Sports Club, Chesney Cricket Club, Kildonan Cricket Club, Berbice Police Sports Club, Mount Sinai Cricket Club, and Whim and Upper Corentyne Cricket Association on the side-lines.
Commenting further on the elections, the Sanasie expressed, “the election which was ordered by the court and it appears to me to be done with the flawed Cricket Administration Act.”
While not disclosing where the Act is flawed, the Cricket West Indies Director is hopeful for the development of the sport in the county.
Meanwhile, the results of the elections are set to be challenged with Rabindranauth Saywack, a member of ‘Team Hilbet Foster,’ confirming that they will be approaching the court over the legitimacy of the elections. Saywack explained that based on the ruling given by the Judge, none of the directions were followed especially that of electing the returning officer at the election.
