Santos ‘keep it clean’ with 3rd win

Limacol Football Tournament

The Santos Football Club Under-20 team on Saturday evening continued their domination of the Limacol Football Tournament by turning in good performances to keep their streak clean in the round-robin stage of this tournament.

Santos in action

Having previously defeated Black Pearl FC and Timehri Panthers FC, the youthful Santos team found themselves confronting the experienced Camptown FC as the latest hurdle that had to be crossed.
Playing at the Ministry of Education Ground on Carifesta Avenue, Camptown took the advantage early, and held on for the first half as they frustrated the youngsters from Santos.
Kayci Roberts was ‘the man with the lucky kick’ for Camptown, having scored in the 18th minute.
Whatever was said to the Santos XI during the break was presumably highly motivational, as this under- 20 outfit returned with fresh vigour and determination to bag a third win.
Rondel Peters netted in the 51st minute to level the scores; and when it looked as though both sides would have to settle for shared points because of their inability to hit the mark, Brandon Solomon recorded his name on the score sheet in the 85th minute when he gave Santos the winning goal in this 2-1 encounter.
The other game of the night resulted in a walkover for the Georgetown Football Club (GFC), as the Northern Rangers were a no-show.
Action in this Limacol tourney will continue tonight at the same venue with Pele FC going toe-to-toe against ‘Police B’ at 19:00hrs; while Mahaica Determinators and Dynamic FC would each hunt a second win when they meet at 21:00hrs.
This 4th edition of the Limacol Football Tournament is sponsored by the New GPC Inc with support from WJ Enterprise, the sole distributors of Croxley Paper. Its eventual winner will walk away with $400,000, while second place receives $200,000. Third- and fourth- place winners would pocket $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.
