The Indian High Commission will host its second annual sari draping demonstration and exhibition on Sunday, March 25 at the Pegasus Hotel.
Indian High Commissioner to Guyana, Venkatachalam Mahalingam explained that while many Guyanese women are willing to wear a sari, they are afraid of the difficulties of draping it.
However, he noted that it is quite simple to do and the demonstrations at the exhibition will be a testimony to that.
“People are fond of wearing a sari, but in today’s generation, they don’t know how to wear saris so we thought we will at least make an attempt to tell them that wearing [a] sari is not all that complicated,” he explained.
Mahalingam highlighted that there will be a variety of saris on display, which are popular in India and commonly worn on an everyday basis.
The event, which is associated with Namaste India, is expected to feature an Indian tea and wine tasting, display of Indian spices, cosmetics and fashionable jewellery and henna designs.
However, the signature event will include the exhibition of exotic saris and the sari draping and demonstration.
The exhibition is scheduled to commence at 11:00h. Meanwhile, the main attraction will kick off at 18:00h with an Indian cultural show. Admission to the event is free of cost.
