Essequibo’s Kemol Savoury stroked an eye-catching 136 to lead Essequibo to 280 all out on day one of their third round Jaguars Franchise 3-day league match against East Bank Demerara at the Everest Cricket Ground, Georgetown.
The left-handed Savoury, a former national youth player received support from Mark Williams who made 43. Spinners Darshan Persaud and Totoran Bishun shared six wickets between them with figures of 3 for 47 and 3 for 73 respectively. East Bank will begin their response today.

In the other matches, Gudakesh Motie’s 6 for 17 spun out West Demerara for 110 with only Akshaya Persaud (43) and Tevin Imlach (39) making significant scores. In response West Beberice could only muster 106 all out as Keshram Seyhodan snared 4 for 37 and pacer Romario Shepherd took 3 for 29. The only fight offered was from Arthley Bailey with 46 and Avishkar Sewkarran 32. West Demerara will resume at the Tuschen ground on 57 without loss.
Over at Lusignan, Georgetown and East Coast Demerara are locked in an intriguing battle. After bowling out Georgetown for 192, hosts East Coast Demerara are replying strongly with 102-4 at stumps with Rajendra Chandrika top scoring with 45 so far. When the city side took the crease, all-rounder Christopher Barnwell top scored with 44 while Robin Bacchus made a run-a-ball 36. It was Kumar Bishundyal with figures of 4 for 60 who did the damage with the ball bowling for the home team.
In the clash between the two Corentyne sides (Lower and Upper) at Albion, Upper Corentyne could only manage a first innings score of 130 with Anthony Bramble hitting the top score of 34 from 26 balls as left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul wreaked havoc with 6 for 49.
In response, Waheid Edwards’ unbeaten 74 lead Lower Corentyne to 166-3 at close of play.
