The newly established School Basketball League is gearing up for its inaugural tip-off this Friday, January 16, across various locations in Georgetown. Willon Cameron, the league’s chairman, is looking forward to an exhilarating start of the league.
“All systems are in place; we are anticipating an exciting start tomorrow. Our feature game is going to be QC versus Saints. QC will be playing host to St Stanislaus College, which is going to be the first game we will have live-streamed. We will have at least one game being live-streamed every week, and tomorrow’s game in the QC versus Saints matchup is expected to be thrilling,” Cameron stated.
Cameron also emphasised that the league is seeking further backing from Corporate Guyana.

“We haven’t had another sponsor come on board as yet. The call still goes out to Corporate Guyana to come out and support the youths, support school basketball, and support this new movement aimed at elevating the standard of basketball in Guyana. We believe this is going to work, but we just need your support to make it even better than it already is,” Cameron commented.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the National Sports Commission has authorised the league to utilise the National Gymnasium outdoor court once renovations are completed in a few days, providing teams without their own courts a chance to enjoy a home court advantage.
The league’s kick-off is scheduled for 16:00h, featuring three simultaneous games: Queen’s College versus St Stanislaus College, St Rose’s versus President’s College, and Marian Academy versus Government Technical Institute (GTI).
