A student attached to a school on the West Coast of Demerara (WCD) was attacked and robbed on Monday evening while making her way home from school.
According to a report, the student had just exited a minibus in Stewartville, WCD, at approximately 21:00h when she was attacked.
The young woman relayed that the perpetrator accosted and choked her from behind before demanding that she hand over her valuables.
The frightened teen handed over her backpack which contained her valuables, including money and her cellphone.
The attacker then quickly made good his escape before an alarm could be sounded. The matter has since been reported to the Police, who are said to be investigating.
Only recently, two University of Guyana students were robbed at gunpoint at the UG minibus park.
It was reported in other sections of the media that two suspects, one of them wielding a knife –attacked the students.
One of the young ladies was relieved of her earrings, cellphone, money, and other valuables. Her spectacles were damaged during the attack. The other student, a male, was struck to the face and also robbed of his valuables.
That matter has also been reported to the Police and has been under investigation.
In July of this year, yet another UG student was robbed at gunpoint by a trio of bandits. The student was reportedly robbed of his valuables which included two cellphones valued $145,000, along with US$115.
One person has since been arrested and charged for the incident.
