Scores participate in virtual Women in Business Expo at Pegasus
As women across Guyana continue to thrive to promote their businesses countywide, the fifth edition of the Women in Business Expo was held virtually on Friday at the Guyana Pegasus Hotel.
The expo, which was launched in 2016, was aimed at providing entrepreneurial opportunities for women with small businesses.

The event that was hosted by Sonia Noel’s Foundation for Creative Arts (SNFCA) in collaboration with the Women’s Association for Sustainable Development, was slated for March this year, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed.
At the event, Sonia Noel noted that this virtual expo is going to build the confidence of women, especially during this challenging time.

“We are not allowing persons to come because we want to abide by all the rules, people are going to be talking to the media, and during the live stream they are going to be saying so much more about their business and where to find them, all of these women operate from their homes….if people have information where to find these women, they will be able to contact them.”
Noel said given that we are approaching the festive season, Guyanese can support their fellow Guyanese buy purchasing gifts from the women right in Guyana.

“When you empower a woman, you empower a family, you empower a community and a nation… in March we would have seen a lot of first-time exhibitors… today is just a fraction of what we would see in March because we couldn’t accommodate everyone…”, she said.
The event coordinator added that she is looking forward to a powerful and meaningful celebration for women with small businesses, and the next event will be bigger and better.
Meanwhile, Guyana Times spoke with female entrepreneur and Founder of Etiquette Training International, Philippa Moorish, who stated: “My trust is customer service because I feel with every business the foundation is customer service. I teach students, ministerial staff… Now that we [Guyana] are having so many foreigners will be in Guyana, we really need to know what are the similarities and cultures.”
Diana Trotman, owner of Enchanted Gardens Floral Arts related “We make hair accessories… this is my second year taking part in the event, from last year when I came, I have gotten a lot more exposure,” she said.
Finally, Meleesa Payne, owner of Jada’s Consultancy, noted that this was her third time participating in the event and the response has been overwhelming. “I actually launched my business at the first event and the response continues to be good.”
