A 45-year-old seaman of Enterprise, East Coast Demerara (ECD), is now in custody after he was found with an illegal gun in his possession at the Port Kaituma waterfront.
Police stated that on Tuesday about 00:10h they received a report at Port Kaituma, North West District (NWD) from a man who reported that he had been threatened by the seaman with a firearm.
As such, a party of Police visited the location where they found the suspect and during a search of his person, a black .32 pistol fell out of his left pants leg.
The weapon was examined and found to be loaded with eight live matching rounds.
Police have since said that upon questioning, the suspect admitted to not being the holder of a firearm licence.
As a result, he was told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested, and escorted to the Port Kaituma Police Station, where he remained in custody pending charges.
The firearm, along with the ammunition, was lodged at the Police Station. (G15)
