The workshop funded by the Social Protection Ministry, is the second in the community and is set to wrap-up on Friday. In her address to the women, the First Lady expressed gratitude to the Ministry for the initiative and praised the support given at the Regional level. She noted that women have become empowered and equipped with knowledge on how to effectively manage a business. The First Lady added that it creates a positive fusion with community and family life.

“The ladies can empower themselves and teach the basics of how they can run a business and through that confidence in themselves, they will be able to tell about market, to be able to package, to plan and how to set themselves, to be marketable,” she said.

The First Lady made a pledge to have the initiative reach those regions that did not benefit from the initiative by December or early next year.

Following the workshop, participants are expected to embark on a community enhancement project.

Upon completion of the workshop participants will receive a certificate recognised by the Ministry of Business and microinstitutions.

Women who participated in the previous workshop last year had embarked on a potable water initiative in the Christiansburg community.

Also in attendance at Monday’s opening were Linden Mayor Carwyn Holland, Regional Chairman Renis Morian and Deputy Director of Community Development Councils Sandra Adams.
