A security officer has now been hospitalised while another has been arrested following a shooting incident at Ayan Chinese Supermarket on the Railway Embankment at Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Wednesday evening.
Thirty-two-year-old Sherwin Young of Plaisance, ECD was shot to both legs by his colleague at about 19:20h on the day in question. Both men are attached to the Northwest Security Service.
Based on reports received, the 26-year-old suspect was armed with a semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun, and was on duty at the Chinese Supermarket when Young, who lives in the area, visited and they were conversing.
Whilst talking, the suspect discharged a round from the shotgun, which hit the victim to both of his legs.
The Police have said that shortly after, the suspect was trying to clear the firearm when another round was discharged, but it did not hit the victim.
An alarm was raised, and the injured man was picked up by public-spirited citizens who took him to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he has been admitted a patient in a stable condition.
The matter was reported to the Police, and the suspect has been arrested as investigations continue.
