Security Guard to stand trial at High Court for attempted murder

Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus ruled that 30-year-old Rondell Mitchell will now stand trial at the Demerara High Court for the offence of attempted murder committed in 2018.
Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus in her ruling noted that the evidence presented during the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) was satisfactory and sufficient, thus Mitchell will be facing a trial during one of the court’s assizes.
The charge which the former Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD) resident faced detailed that he attempted to murder Sherwin Anderson on October 28, 2018, while he was in the vicinity of the Meadow Bank fishery wharf.
According to previous media reports, the court heard that Mitchell discharged a loaded firearm at Anderson with intent to murder him in the presence of Oquacy Harvey and Romario Nurse.
The court was informed that on October 28, Anderson was at the fishery wharf when the accused allegedly took his mobile phone and flashed a picture of him.
This reportedly annoyed him and a heated argument broke out between them.
Mitchell then armed himself with a 9mm pistol and shot the victim to his abdomen. The two other men were in the vicinity when the man was shot.
The injured Anderson was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.
An investigation which was launched led to the arrest of Rondell who has now been committed to stand trial at the High Court.
