Security officer charged with murder of mother-in-law

A 28-year-old security officer appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court where he was arraigned for the gruesome murder of his mother-in-law.

Remanded: Linden Junior Isaacs

Linden Junior Isaacs of Strathspey Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara (ECD), appeared before Magistrate Marissa Mittelholzer via Skype and was not required to plea to the indictable offence.

Police stated that on May 11, 2020, between 14:30h and 14:45h, at Lot 257 South Vryheid’s Lust, he murdered Velma Pickering.
It was reported that on the day in question, the accused visited his mother-in-law’s house where she admonished him about his attitude towards her daughter. This led to a heated argument.

According to Police, the man attacked the woman and dealt her several stabs about her body with an ice pick. She attempted to escape the wrath of the man but collapsed in a neighbour’s yard.
The 58-year-old woman was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Three days prior to the incident, the police had issued a bulletin for Isaacs for unlawfully wounding Shamar Roberts, a resident of Buxton, ECD.
Nevertheless, Isaacs was remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance on June 9, 2020, at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
