Security slapped with illegal gun, ammo

Security rank Trevor Hilegar, 48, of Lot 389 “A” Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown was on Monday morning remanded to prison by City Magistrate Judy Latchman after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition which he was not licensed to carry.

The gun and ammunition which Trevor Hilegar reportedly had in his possession

Appearing before the magistrate represented by Attorney James Bond, Hilegar denied that he had had a .45 pistol in his possession on July 13 last, and that he had also had forty rounds of live .45 ammunition and 19 rounds of live 7.62×39 ammunition in his possession. He also told the court he is licensed to carry the firearm which he had in his possession.
Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris, however, told Magistrate Latchman that the defendant was licensed to carry only a .32 firearm.
The Prosecution is contending that on July 13, the security rank was stopped by ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch at Oronoque Street Queenstown, and the items were found in his car trunk. He, however, produced the licensed .32 pistol which was in his carry-on bag.
Bail was opposed by the prosecution, and the defendant was remanded to prison until July 30, when the case would be recalled.
