The No 65 Village, Corentyne Berbice resident who confessed that he along with a named accomplice tortured and killed the owner of Sun Splash Beach Resort and his handyman is expected to make his first court appearance early in this week.
A source close to the investigation told Guyana Times on Sunday that the second suspect in the men’s murder is still on the run as Police continue to hunt for him.
The confession was made over last weekend when the self-confessed killer had been further detained by investigators are the police were able to get an extension period approval from the High Court.
On December 27, 2019, the badly decomposed bodies of 59-year-old Harry Prashad, a handyman of Number 65 Village, Corentyne, and 68-year-old Vivekanand Brijbassi were discovered in the balcony of Sun Splash Beach Resort located on the Number 63 Beach.
Brijbassi was found lying on the back with two toes severed – one was next to his body and the other was not located.
Prashad was found about fifteen feet away with both hands tied to a post on the balcony, one foot was also tied to the post and was severed at the ankle. Both bodies were in an advanced state of decomposition with maggots feasting.
The self-confessed murderer allegedly told the cops that he and his accomplice attacked and beat Brijbassi in the lower flat of the resort. He detailed that the injured man was taken to the balcony where Prasad was sitting.
Once there, both men were tortured and left to die. The source also stated that they are following all major leads with respect to the double murder and more so, they are on the hunt for the accomplice who is also from No 65 Village.
It was reported that there was a high level of violence with the dismembering of some parts of the body.
Previously, Police Commander of Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), Senior Superintendent Calvin Brutus had stated that the police were made aware that there is an ongoing dispute for the property between the deceased and other family members.
