BCB/Pepsi 50-Over Cricket Tournament…
The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) will host the semi-finals of its Pepsi 50-Over Round Robin Tournament on Saturday, November 17.
Young Warriors will lock horns with Port Mourant in the first semi-final at the Cumberland Ground, East Canje while Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets and Blairmont Community Centre will clash at the Area H Ground in Rose Hall Town.
Young Warriors Cricket Club played unbeaten to head Zone A while Blairmont Community Centre advanced as the runners-up, based on a superior run rate, ahead of West Berbice. In Zone B, three teams – Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets, Port Mourant Cricket Club and Albion Community Centre ended on the same number of points and with Skeldon Cricket Club giving a walkover in the tournament, the top two teams were selected based on overall run rate and then net run rate in three matches. Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets had an overall run rate of 4.93 and net run rate of 1.48 while Port Mourant Cricket Club had 4.41, 0.90 and Albion Community Centre 4.20 and 0.20 respectively.
Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets was named winner of Zone B and Port Mourant runners-up based on the run rate calculations. Young Warriors Cricket Club would be spearheaded by the talented Alex Algoo, Seon Hetmyer, Vishal Mohabir, Kassim Khan, Suresh Dhani, Trevlon Stanislaus and Linden Austin while Port Mourant would depend heavily on skipper Joshua Ramsammy, Madan Budram, Loyydel Lewis, R Carmichael, Samuel Kistasammy and Doorsammy Mahadeo.
The powerful Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets team have been dominating Berbice cricket along with Albion Community Centre over the last decade and under the captaincy of former National Under-19 skipper Shawn Pereira would start as favourites against Blairmont Community Centre. Pereira would be supported by his Vice Captain, Clinton Pestano; Kevin Sinclair; Kevlon Anderson; Eon Hooper; Junior Sinclair; Keith Simpson; Surendra Kissoonlall; Sylus Tyndall and the hard-hitting Vidal Crandon. Blairmont Community Centre with a number of promising youth players would be no easy walkover.
